Objectives

Acquisition of high quality images of dermatoscopy.
Performing "follow up" studies.
Database management of dermatoscopic and histologic features together with dermatoscopic images.
Database management of dermatoscopic features extracted by a digital image processing system.
Using the database as a tool for learning dermatoscopic diagnoses.
Using the database as training set for the classification of lesions by a Bayesian Belief Network.

Documentation of images in two different resolutions with shading correction (normalized image acquisition).
Database management for patients and images.
Documentation of the ABCD-score of dermatoscopy, histological data, and additional information.
Image galleries for patients and individual histological diagnoses.
Segmentation of the lesion and measurement of area and circumference.

Developed and applied in daily routine.
Easy follow-up of melanocytic lesions by presenting the previous and the actual image simultaneously on the screen.
High acceptance by patients.
Confidence in the physician will be increased by performing documentation and follow-up investigations of melanocytic lesions with the computer.
Possibility of image processing, computer based training, computer based diagnoses and objective measurements of size.
Possibility of teledermatoscopy by the interchange of digital images of melanocytic lesions.
